CARTAYA BSR

2014 Dark Bay Canadian Warmblood Mare

Sire: Carthago Sun I (Carthago x Schampus xx)

Dam: Spirits Singh (Singh America xx x Barbaric Spirit xx)

Breeder: Buffalo Skins Ranch

Cartaya BSR (barn name: Cartaya) is a full sibling to Cielo BSR and is the last foal from Spirits Singh.  Spirit came from a line of old-blood Thoroughbreds who were successful racehorses, many of whom had 40+ starts over two or three years of racing.  This longevity is sought after not only for breeding racehorses, but also for producing sport horses when crossed with Warmbloods.  Spirit was purchased as a Young Riders mount for Eventing.  Although a pasture injury forced an untimely retirement from sport, Spirit left her mark producing four lovely foals.  Cartaya is very similar in type and in attitude to her dam: she is brave, athletic, sporty, and fiercely competitive.  Cartaya's sire, Carthago Sun I, is known for transmitting his amateur-friendly nature and jumping ability.  Cartaya inherited both attributes from her sire.

Though she is a jumper-type mare, Cartaya has schooled in the hunter ring for experience and had no issue with the hunter fill.  Cartaya had a foal by Le Primeur in 2018 before starting her under saddle career.  She developed quickly throughout 2019 and enjoyed attending horse shows at Spruce Meadows, Rocky Mountain Show Jumping, and Thunderbird Show Park.  Cartaya did not show in 2020 due to COVID cancelling all local horse shows.  Due to the uncertainty at the start of the 2021 show season and fearing that horse shows would again be cancelled, Cartaya was bred in the summer of 2021.

Cartaya's 2018 colt, Luminato BSR, inherited her inquisitive nature, trainability, and modern type.  He was lightly started in 2021 and demonstrated a good work ethic, trainability, and lovely movement.  He is reported to have a great personality and is the barn favourite.

Cartaya was bred to Omano BC (Cumano x Darco) for a July 2022 foal.  Omano BC is proving to live up to his star-studded pedigree of top show jumpers: at only 8 years old, he is competing at 1.35-1.40m in Europe.  He is a big, powerful, scopey stallion.  Crossed with Cartaya's cat-like athleticism, brave attitude, and speed, this foal should have all the ingredients to be a top quality show jumping prospect,  This foal will be selectively offered for sale to a show home.  Please inquire for price.
